| As
your webmaster (moi-même) was enjoying the Spring in Provence,
I found a poem in English au
Centre Européen de Poésie d'Avignon. It's by Gordon
Jackson, who was at the Center 30 May, 1997, and left it as a
memento of his visit.
His
dedication:
A Marie
duchesse de Rohan
|
There
used to be
a pope in Rome
another one
in Avignon. |
|
Halfway
across
it lost its heart
and doubled back
to its own start.
|
One
claimed to be
the proper pope
the other was
his antidote. |
|
Now
tourists come
in suntanned hope
to see the palace
without the pope.
|
After
awhile
the two were one
with no popes left
in Avignon. |
|
And
photograph
from Spring to Fall
the bridge that's not
a bridge at all.
|
There
was a bridge
of lovely stone
started to cross
the River Rhône. |
|
And
maybe hear
-- I beg your pardon --
poetry that isn't
in a garden
|
|
La
poésie dans un jardin
