Curriculum Description

The Alliance Française has adopted the method of the
Alliance Française de Paris, a contemporary program
emphasizing both natural and basic language structure.
It offers:

Emphasis on developing communication skills, using colloquial language as well as the language of the media 

Authentic material such as photographs, menus, letters, advertisements, maps and newspaper clippings

Systematic presentation of vocabulary and grammar

Cultural information on the entire Francophone world.

LEVEL I - BASIC 101 THRU 105

For students with little or no previous study of French.
This course aims at developing a basic ability to under-
stand, communicate, answer and ask questions in French.
Authentic, realistic dialogues invite the students to
participate the French way in situations of everyday life,
providing a solid foundation in communication skills.
French grammar is explained from a practical point of
view and exercised both orally and in writing. This course
is completed in approximately 120 to 150 hours.


LEVEL II. - INTERMEDIATE
201 THRU 205

Prerequisite: successful completion of Sans Frontières I
or the equivalent. This course is for serious students who
want to further their knowledge of written and spoken
French. It continues the previous approach leading
gradually to more complex and idiomatic uses of modern
French. A great variety of authentic documents, poems,
songs etc., provides material to develop a deeper sense of
the culture and to promote oral expression and
communication. This course is completed in
approximately 120 to150 hours.

LEVEL m. - ADVANCED
301 THRU 308

Prerequisite: successful completion of Sans Frontieres II or the equivalent. This course is designed for those who have studied French for several years and have acquired a good level of fluency, but wish to achieve excellence. It is of particular interest to teachers of French. This course aims to attain a more complete mastery of French syntax and textual analysis. Some themes covered are: "Les Français vus de l'etranger", "La presse et les medias", "Les Français et la table", "Villes et villages", "Les Français et l'argent", "Les Français et leur temps libre", "Les Français et l'amour", "Arts et spectacles".
