Curriculum Description

The Alliance Française uses the method put forth by the Alliance Française de Paris, a contemporary program emphasizing both the natural and basic language structures.  It provides:

• an emphasis on developing communication skills, using colloquial language and the language of the media

• authentic materials such as photographs, menus, letters, advertisements, maps and newspaper clippings 

• a systematic presentation of vocabulary and grammar, as well as cultural information from throughout the francophone world.

LEVEL I -  Basic 101 - THROUGH 105

Level I A :  for students with no prior education in the French language

Level I B:   for students with some education in the French language

This level I course will develop basic skills in understanding, communicating, responding to and asking questions in French.  Authentic, realistic dialogues invite students to participate in French using situations from everyday life.  French grammar is explained practically and is used both orally and in writing.

LEVEL II - INTERMEDIATE 201 THROUGH 205

Prerequisite: successful completion of the Level I book or its equivalent.

This course is for more advanced students who want to further their knowledge of written and spoken French.  It is a continuation of the previous course leading to more complex and idiomatic uses of modern French.  A wide variety of authentic documents (poems, songs etc.) are used to develop a better understanding of French culture and to promote oral expression and communication.

LEVEL III - ADVANCED 301 THROUGH 308

Prerequisite: successful completion of the Level II book or the equivalent.

This course is designed for those who have studied French for several years and have acquired a good level of proficiency, but wish to attain a more complete mastery of French syntax and textual analysis.  It is a continuation of the previous course.

LEVEL IV - CONVERSATION

Prerequisite: successful completion of Level III book or the equivalent.

This course is intended for students who have excellent proficiency and would like to delve deeper into the French language.  It focuses on the acquisition of lexical, grammatical and stylistic competencies, as well as textual analyses, commentaries, and the discussion of ideas.  A wide range of subjects are examined, such as history, art, politics, and literature encompassing contemporary French society and culture.

DELF AND DALF - INCREASE YOUR  INVESTMENT IN FRENCH LANGUAGE

Our school offers the opportunity to prepare for the DELF (Diplôme d‘Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française)

The DELF and DALF certificates are received from an officially approved examination center and are officially recognized by the French government and the European Union. These certificates are a must in order to work or live in France or in a French speaking country.  Our school has the latest textbooks and our team of teachers can schedule private lessons upon request.
